Incident Summary
A pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during the landing flare, a gust of wind caused the aircraft to bounce upon touchdown. During the subsequent landing roll, the airplane began moving to the left. The pilot applied power to initiate a go-around, but the airplane continued to veer left, departing the runway surface. The aircraft then struck trees located approximately 115 feet to the left of the runway.
Aircraft Damage
A postaccident examination revealed substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
