Incident Details
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway numbers with excess airspeed. This resulted in a bounce, after which the airplane veered off the runway. Video surveillance provided by the airport director captured the event. The footage showed the airplane near the runway aiming point markings, approximately 1,000 feet from the runway threshold, as it veered to the left and subsequently impacted a ditch located between the runway and a parallel taxiway.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage, specifically to the fuselage and the right wing, as a result of the impact with the ditch.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
