Incident Details
A solo student pilot reported that during the initial landing attempt, the airplane bounced. On the subsequent touchdown, the nose gear impacted the runway with a side load, causing the nose gear to collapse. The airplane then slid to a stop in a nose-down attitude on the runway.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the firewall as a result of the collapse and subsequent slide. No pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine were reported by the student pilot, which would have precluded normal operation.
Pilot Actions
The student pilot was the sole occupant and was conducting a solo training flight. The sequence of events leading to the bounce and subsequent side load impact was described by the pilot.
