Cessna 172 Makes Forced Landing in Korean River, No Injuries

Incident

On February 10, 2017, at approximately 0952 local time, a Cessna 172 airplane, registered in the Republic of Korea as HL1171, executed a forced landing in a shallow river near Giseong-ri. The aircraft was being operated by a flight school at the time of the incident. The forced landing resulted in minor damage to the airplane. The pilot and one passenger on board sustained no injuries.

Investigation

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) of the Republic of Korea is conducting an investigation into the incident. As the state of manufacture of the airplane, the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist the ARAIB. Further inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the ARAIB.
