Incident Overview
According to the pilot's report, during the first approach to land, a go-around was performed due to excess speed on final approach. The pilot retracted the landing gear and flaps and remained in the traffic pattern.
Second Landing Attempt
On the second landing attempt, the pilot extended the flaps and reduced power for a normal landing. However, during the landing flare, the propeller struck the runway, and the airplane skidded to a stop.
Post-Incident Report
The pilot stated that he "simply forgot to check if the [landing] gear was down on the second landing attempt." The pilot also reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Damage
The fuselage sustained substantial damage.
