What happened
On May 9, 2017, at approximately 1430 UTC, a Cessna P210N, registration N116DC, was performing a cruise flight from General Juan Alvarez International Airport near Acapulco, Mexico, to Mc Allen Miller International Airport near Mc Allen, Texas. During the flight, the aircraft experienced lightning strikes.
Following these strikes, the pilot initiated an emergency descent. During this maneuver, the aircraft impacted trees and terrain near San Vicente Tancoayalab, Mexico. The impact resulted in the destruction of the airplane and one serious injury to the pilot. There were no fatalities.
