Accident Overview
On December 30, 2017, at 1642 universal time coordinated, a Construcciones Aeronauticas SA C.A.S.A. 1.131 (Bucker BU-131), registration N1950M (also marked as NX-1950M), and a Bell 412SP, registration EC-MMC, were involved in a mid-air collision during the final approach for landing to runway 20 at Muchamiel Aerodrome (LEMU) in Alicante, Spain. Both flights had originated from LEMU and were returning.
Post-Collision Events
Following the collision, the CASA 1.131 (N1950M) impacted terrain. The Bell 412SP (EC-MMC) landed without further incident. Both aircraft sustained substantial damage. The pilot of N1950M sustained fatal injuries. The pilot and eight passengers aboard EC-MMC were uninjured.
