Incident Overview
A pilot reported that while performing a three-point landing in a tailwheel-equipped airplane, the aircraft yawed slightly to the left of the intended path of travel. As the right wheel touched down, the left wing and left main landing gear rose. The pilot applied left aileron and right rudder in an attempt to correct the deviation. However, the airplane entered a ground loop to the left and subsequently exited the left side of the runway.
Damage
The right landing gear sank into the sod surface. The right wing struck the ground, and the airplane tipped forward onto its nose before coming to rest on its landing gear. Substantial damage was sustained to the right wing and aileron.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
