Accident Summary
The pilot reported that during the landing roll, the airplane began veering to the left. Despite applying right rudder and brake to correct the deviation, the veer continued. The airplane subsequently departed the left side of the runway, encountered a ditch, and came to rest.
Aircraft Damage and Tire Failure
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot reported that the left main tire failed on landing.
Post-Accident Inspection
A Federal Aviation Administration aviation safety inspector examined the runway and observed marks from the failed tire. The inspector was unable to determine whether the tire had failed prior to landing or upon touchdown. Additionally, the inspector assessed the brakes and noted no abnormalities.
