Accident Sequence
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during landing, after the tailwheel touched down, the airplane veered sharply to the left. Despite applying full right rudder and brake, the pilot could not correct the veer. The airplane exited the runway to the left, where the right main landing gear collapsed and the right wing struck the ground. The airplane came to rest in a nose-down attitude.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing.
Postaccident Examination
A Federal Aviation Administration inspector conducted a postaccident examination. The inspector jacked the tail into the air to observe the tailwheel and rudder. No anomalies were observed with the rudder cables, tailwheel assembly, or brakes.
Weather Information
The automated weather observation station located on the airport reported that, about 16 minutes after the accident, the wind was from 240° at 6 knots. The airplane had landed on runway 25.
