What happened
On April 23, 2018, at approximately 06:30 UTC, a Cessna 152 was taxiing on the apron at the Depułtycze Królewskie (EPCD) aerodrome. The aircraft was being operated by an aircraft mechanic accompanied by a student from the Chełm University of Technology (PWSZ). During the movement, the crew was operating without radio communication, despite the fact that other flight operations were actively taking place at the airfield at the time.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the operator, focused on the lack of communication and the breach of standard operating procedures during ground movements. The inquiry established that the aircraft was moving through the airfield without maintaining contact with air traffic services or ground control.
Findings
The primary cause of the incident was the failure to follow established procedures regarding ground operations and radio communication requirements.
