Accident Details
On August 31, 2018, at 2320 central daylight time, a Beech 55 airplane, registration N10DS, was substantially damaged when it collided with terrain in a cornfield near Waupaca, Wisconsin. The pilot sustained serious injuries. The flight was operated as a personal flight under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91.
Sequence of Events
According to information obtained by the responding Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot had been involved in a domestic incident against his wife. Police pursued the pilot, who proceeded to Oshkosh Airport (OSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and entered his own airplane. Despite being instructed not to take off by the tower controller, the pilot departed the airport. He then flew to Stevens Point Municipal Airport (STE) in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, with the intention to refuel. Upon landing, he was met by law enforcement, so he departed STE without refueling.
During the approach to Waupaca Municipal Airport (PCZ) in Waupaca, Wisconsin, the airplane collided with terrain in a cornfield approximately one-half to one mile northwest of the airport. The airplane sustained substantial damage to its fuselage and wings.
Postaccident Examination
A postaccident examination of the airplane did not find any fuel in the fuel tanks or lines.
