Accident Synopsis
During a multi-engine check ride, a pilot inadvertently retracted the landing gear while attempting a touch-and-go landing. The airplane skidded down the runway and came to rest at a taxi intersection, resulting in substantial damage to the fuselage.
Sequence of Events
The pilot, who held a single-engine rating, was undergoing a multi-engine check ride with a flight examiner. The examiner requested several touch-and-go landings to assess the pilot's proficiency. During the landing roll of one such touch-and-go, the pilot mistakenly retracted the landing gear instead of performing the intended action. The airplane then skidded along the right side of the runway before coming to rest at a taxi intersection.
Damage and Findings
The accident caused substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
