Incident Details
A student pilot was conducting a solo cross-country flight. The pilot reported that during landing, the airplane encountered a crosswind from the right and the approach was made without flaps. The airspeed was faster than desired, prompting the pilot to abort the landing. However, the airplane was described as being "very close" to preceding traffic that had also aborted its landing. The pilot decided to continue with the landing instead of going around again.
The airplane touched down long on the runway. The pilot then attempted to exit the runway at the last available taxiway intersection. During this maneuver, the airplane departed the left side of the runway surface. The left wing subsequently impacted a windsock, causing substantial damage to the wing.

The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing as a result of the collision with the windsock.

The student pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
