Incident Details
A pilot reported that during a landing attempt following a go-around, the airplane touched down approximately 5 feet to the left of the runway centerline and immediately veered left. The pilot applied opposite rudder and aileron to correct the deviation, but the airplane continued its leftward movement, departed the runway surface, and collided with a snowbank.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing as a result of the impact with the snowbank.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Conditions
The automated weather observation station located on the airport reported that at the time of the accident, the wind was from 210° at 11 knots. The pilot reported that the wind was from 220° at 9 knots, gusting to 14 knots. The airplane was landing on runway 13.
