Accident Summary
A pilot reported that during an approach to runway 16 on a private airstrip, the electronic primary flight display indicated wind from the south at 16 knots. The airplane touched down but quickly veered to the left. The pilot applied power in an attempt to correct the deviation, which lifted the airplane slightly but was insufficient to achieve a go-around. After floating a short distance, the airplane touched down again off the side of the runway. The nose landing gear collapsed when it contacted the dirt.
Damage Assessment
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing. There were no reported injuries, and the pilot stated that no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions occurred that would have precluded normal operation.

The pilot noted that the addition of power during the excursion was enough to lift the airplane slightly but not to take off again. He confirmed that the airplane had been functioning normally before the accident.
