During landing on runway 16R, the airplane veered left after main gear touchdown, exited the runway, and struck a visual approach slope indicator, resulting in substantial left wing damage.

Accident Sequence

The pilot reported that during landing, shortly after the main landing gear touched down, the airplane veered left. It then exited the runway to the left and impacted the visual approach slope indicator (VASI).

Aircraft Damage

The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing. No preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions were reported that would have precluded normal operation.

Weather Information

The automated weather observation station located on the airport reported that, about the time of the accident, the wind was 120° at 9 knots. The pilot reported the wind as 120° at 13 knots. The airplane landed on runway 16R.
