What happened
On August 15, 2019, a McDonnell Douglas MD11F, registration N270UP, operated by United Parcel Service, was involved in an incident during flight near Warsaw, Poland. While the aircraft was in the cruise phase of flight, the No. 2 (right) engine, a Pratt & Whitney PW 4460 turbofan, experienced power fluctuations and eventually suffered a flameout.
Following the flight, upon arrival at the destination airport, fire and smoke were observed emanating from the No. 2 engine. The airport fire brigade responded to the scene and applied fire suppression measures to the engine. The aircraft was subsequently towed from the runway for further inspection. There were no injuries reported as a result of this event.
