Incident Overview
A pilot operating a tailwheel-equipped airplane conducted a practice rejected takeoff on a 2,344-foot downhill grass runway. According to the pilot, during the simulated rejected takeoff, the airplane floated and did not settle immediately on the runway. The pilot felt unable to execute a go-around and proceeded to land the aircraft, applying brakes. The airplane subsequently overran the runway, descended a shallow embankment, and nosed over.
Aircraft Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the vertical stabilizer and rudder.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation. He also noted that the maneuver should have been practiced on a longer runway.
