Incident Overview
On September 15, 2019, a Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777-200ER, registration AP-BGK, was in flight approximately 5 miles northwest of Lahore, Pakistan, when the pilot initiated a Mayday call, reporting a right hand engine fire. The aircraft, powered by two General Electric GE90 turbofan engines, requested to return to Lahore airport.
Landing and Damage
The airplane landed safely with no injuries reported. Post-incident examination revealed that only the engine starter was damaged.
Investigation
The investigation is being conducted by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA). The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is participating as the US Accredited Representative as the state of manufacturer for the engines.
