Accident Details
During the initial climb, the pilot of a float-equipped airplane perceived a loss of lift. Uncertain of the cause, he initiated a left turn back toward the lake. As the airplane turned, a gust of wind struck the tail, causing a loss of control. The airplane entered an aerodynamic stall and subsequently impacted the water.
Damage and Conditions
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the left wing and fuselage. The pilot reported that no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions were present that would have precluded normal operation. At the time of the accident, the wind was variable at 10 knots, gusting to 20 knots, and the airplane was departing to the north.
