Accident Overview
A pilot reported that during a visual approach, he flew higher than usual to avoid a berm near the approach end of the runway. The airplane touched down "at or just after the first 1/3 of the runway," according to the pilot's account. After touchdown, maximum braking was applied, but the airplane was unable to stop before the end of the runway and overran.
Damage and Mechanical Condition
The overrun resulted in substantial damage to the engine mount and right wing. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Pilot Actions
The pilot's decision to fly a high approach was specifically intended to avoid the berm. Despite using maximum braking after touchdown, the airplane continued beyond the runway surface.
