Lancair 320 N320P Accident Near Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Accident Overview and Flight History On October 25, 2023, at 1829 central daylight time, a Lancair 320 airplane, registration N320P, was substantially damaged in an accident near Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The pilot was fatally injured. The flight was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. ADS-B data indicated the flight originated from Jesse Viertel Memorial Airport (VER) near Boonville, Missouri, at approximately 1545. The aircraft flew northeast toward the Wisconsin Door County peninsula, then descended and turned toward Ephraim/Gibraltar Airport (3D2). It did not land at 3D2 and proceeded south-southwest. The final ADS-B target was recorded at 1829:29. During the final 1 minute and 30 seconds, the aircraft descended at 900 ft/min before impacting trees and coming to rest submerged in a small lake. The accident site was located about 2.5 miles north of the approach end of runway 17 at Manitowoc County Airport (MTW).
