What happened
On September 22, 2024, an accident involving a Robinson R44 II helicopter, registration SP-CBW, occurred in the vicinity of the ZULU navigational waypoint at Warsaw-Babice (EPBC) airport. The investigation into the circumstances of the event is being conducted by the Polish State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation (PKBWL).
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation team has performed a comprehensive review of various technical and operational elements. The scope of the investigation includes:
- Examination of the aircraft's technical and operational documentation
- Technical analysis of the engine and airframe components
- Review of crew-related factors
- Evaluation of the evacuation procedures performed from the helicopter following the landing
As of the current stage of the investigation, the research team is in the process of drafting the Final Report. The commission has notified international aviation bodies, including EASA, the EU, ICAO, and the NTSB, regarding the occurrence.
