The flight originated from Henderson Executive Airport (HND) in Henderson, Nevada, and was en route to Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) in Monterey, California.

While operating at flight level 200, the pilot lost consciousness. The passenger on board attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the pilot. During the event, the passenger contacted the Southern California Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) and received assistance with airplane operation and navigation. The aircraft was subsequently landed at Meadows Field Airport (BFL) in Bakersfield.
