What happened
On September 13, 2025, a pilot departed from Borne Sulinowo in a PODEŠVA-AIR Tulak, registration OK-VUY33, intending to fly to Płock. During the flight, weather conditions deteriorated significantly, with cloud bases dropping to approximately 100–200 meters above ground level. Due to low fuel reserves, the pilot determined that continuing to the planned destination or returning to the departure airfield was not possible and sought an emergency landing site.
The pilot selected a field near the village of Parzeń, approximately 15 kilometers west of Płock. During the approach over a wooded area with trees measuring 10–15 meters in height, the aircraft's wing struck the treetops. This impact disrupted the flight path, causing the aircraft to strike more trees before crashing into the ground. The aircraft was destroyed, though no fire occurred. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was able to exit the wreckage uninjured.
Following the crash, the pilot did not immediately notify emergency services or the PKBWL. The wreckage was discovered the following day by a passerby, who then alerted the police.
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation utilized police materials, witness statements, and interviews with the pilot. The investigation confirmed that the pilot held valid Czech flight credentials and that the aircraft's maintenance documentation was up to date. Meteorological analysis from IMGW indicated that while the pilot had checked current conditions via telephone with the Płock airfield manager, the pilot did not review forecasts for the later period of the flight, which showed worsening weather due to a warm front.
Findings
- The pilot failed to perform a complete analysis of meteorological conditions for the planned flight duration.
- The pilot did not conduct radio communications with air traffic services during the flight.
- The approach to the improvised landing site was executed incorrectly.
- Weather conditions in the vicinity of the intended landing area were below VFR minimums.
