What happened
On April 17, 2025, at approximately 15:40 EDT, a Beech A24, registration N8060R, was performing a local flight under Part 91 regulations when it experienced an accident at Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) in Greenville, South Carolina.
According to the pilot, the preflight inspection, engine run-up, and takeoff roll showed no engine anomalies. However, during the initial climb at an altitude of approximately 50 feet above ground level, the aircraft suffered a total loss of engine power. Because there was no remaining runway available, the pilot attempted a forced landing in a field located at the departure end of the runway.
During the landing maneuver, the pilot banked the aircraft to the right to avoid the runway approach lights. This maneuver resulted in an aerodynamic stall and an impact with the terrain. The aircraft came to rest in an upright position approximately 730 feet northeast of the runway. The accident resulted in one minor injury to the pilot, with no fatalities.
Damage
The fuselage and wings of the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
