The flight was being conducted as a Part 91 maintenance test flight following the completion of a 100-hour inspection.

During the post-maintenance check flight, the pilot reported an engine problem shortly after departing from runway 35. In an attempt to return to the runway, the aircraft failed to maintain altitude and struck a heavily vegetated field located west of the airport perimeter fence. The accident resulted in one serious injury to the pilot and the passenger was not injured.
