Occurrence
On 25 September 2018, a Robinson R44 II helicopter, operated by Essential Helicopters, was en route southbound to Buttonville Municipal Airport from North Bay, Ontario. The helicopter was piloted by the sole occupant.
Flight Path
While approaching the airport, the helicopter encountered instrument meteorological conditions and turned northbound away from the airport. The helicopter was subsequently found substantially damaged in a bush 9 nautical miles north of the airport.
Injuries
The pilot sustained fatal injuries.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada conducted a class 4 investigation. These investigations are limited in scope, and while the final reports may contain limited analysis, they do not contain findings or recommendations. Class 4 investigations are generally completed within 220 days.
