What happened
On the afternoon of May 14, 2024, an Airbus A320, registration UP-A320, was performing a scheduled passenger flight arriving at Almaty International Airport. During the approach phase of the flight, the crew experienced a loss of power in one of the engines. Following standard emergency procedures, the flight crew prepared for an emergency landing.
As the aircraft approached the runway, the engine failure necessitated a non-standard landing configuration. The aircraft subsequently performed a belly landing on the runway surface. While the aircraft sustained significant damage to its underside and landing gear components, there were no fatalities or serious injuries reported among the passengers or the crew. All occupants were evacuated from the aircraft safely.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the mechanical state of the engines and the flight crew's adherence to emergency checklists. Authorities examined the engine's internal components to identify the specific point of failure and reviewed the maintenance logs for the Airbus A320 to determine if any recent servicing issues contributed to the event.
