What happened
During a period of local training maneuvers near Værløse Air Base, two separate aircraft were involved in a fatal mid-air collision. The first aircraft, a twin-engine plane operated by a single pilot, had recently departed from the airfield. While the pilot was ascending to an altitude of approximately 300 meters, the aircraft struck another plane.
The second aircraft, a North American Harvard with registration 32-353, was also engaged in local training exercises at the time. This aircraft was operated by a crew of two and was in its landing phase when the impact occurred. Following the collision, both aircraft lost control and descended into the ground.
Findings
- The accident resulted in three fatalities.
- The collision occurred while one aircraft was climbing and the other was attempting to land, indicating a failure to maintain separation during simultaneous training sorties.
