What happened
During the final approach to Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport, an aircraft encountered heavy fog. In an attempt to regain visual contact with the ground surface amidst the obscured conditions, the pilot-in-command lowered the altitude of the plane. During this descent, the aircraft collided with the mast of a boat located near the south harbor.
Following the impact, the aircraft traveled several dozen yards before crashing into the area. The collision resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were three fatalities among the crew members, while one other occupant sustained injuries.
Findings
- The pilot's decision to descend below safe altitude to establish visual reference in foggy conditions led to the collision with the maritime structure.
