What happened
During a cargo transport mission operating between Luanda and Saurimo, an unidentified surface-to-air missile struck the aircraft while it was maintaining cruising altitude. Following the impact, the crew initiated an emergency descent to a lower altitude in an attempt to stabilize the flight.
The aircraft subsequently performed an emergency landing in the vicinity of Luzamba. During the course of the incident, one crew member lost their life. Additionally, four other members of the crew were detained by UNITA rebel forces following the landing.
Findings
- The aircraft was struck by a missile during the cruise phase of flight.
