What happened
During an approach into Kabul, the pilot of the aircraft deviated from the established approach trajectory. Despite receiving warnings from other crew members regarding the deviation, the captain did not execute a go-around procedure. As a result, the aircraft maintained an excessive altitude on the glide slope, leading to a touchdown approximately 2,300 meters beyond the runway threshold.
Due to the extended distance traveled before landing, the crew was unable to halt the plane within the remaining runway length. The aircraft subsequently overran the pavement by 660 meters, striking various obstacles along the path. The impact caused substantial damage to the airframe. The accident resulted in one fatality and five injuries among the occupants.
Findings
Investigations into the incident concluded that the primary factor was an incorrect approach configuration maintained by the captain, specifically the failure to initiate a go-around after being alerted to the deviation from the flight path.
