What happened
During a cargo flight returning from Farikasia to Naryan Mar, an aircraft carrying a crew of three and a shipment of fish crashed during the initial climb. The weather at the time of the incident was characterized by good visibility exceeding 10 km and an outside air temperature of -26°.
While the aircraft was ascending to an altitude of approximately 200 meters, the captain initiated a left-hand turn. During this maneuver, the plane reached an excessive bank angle of 50°, leading to an aerodynamic stall. The impact occurred roughly 1,500 meters beyond the runway threshold. The wreckage was destroyed in the crash. Of the three crew members on board, all three were injured; however, the co-pilot later succumbed to his injuries approximately one hour after the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the primary cause was pilot error during the execution of the turn. The captain utilized improper techniques when beginning the left maneuver. Contributing factors included the fact that this was the captain's initial mission in northern Russia and his first experience operating during nighttime hours. Furthermore, the other crew members were unaware that the captain lacked specific experience regarding these particular operational conditions.
