1970s Soviet Transport Aircraft Crash at Ozerevo (CCCP-L4712)

Incident Overview A transport aircraft was en route from Vnukovo to Leningrad when, while cruising at an altitude of 900 meters in clouds, the right engine failed. The crew was unable to feather the propeller, which prevented them from maintaining a safe altitude. ## Emergency Diversion and Crash The captain decided to divert to Vypolzovo Airbase, but radio contact with the base could not be established for an unknown reason. The pilot then attempted an emergency landing in a potato field located in Ozerevo, where the aircraft crashed and was destroyed. ## Casualties Five crew members and two passengers were killed in the accident. Twelve other occupants were injured. ## Official Findings The official investigation attributed the accident to a failure of the right engine in flight, caused by an oil leakage due to the failure of a connection hose.
