What happened
On a flight traveling along the coast from Ossora toward Anapka (Ilpyrski), a single-engine aircraft encountered extreme weather conditions characterized by heavy snowfall and significantly reduced visibility. During the transit, intense winds caused the aircraft to drift 7.5 km away from its intended flight path. The plane eventually struck a mountain slope at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, located roughly 11 km northeast of the Rybozavod (fish factory) No. 72 in the Ossora district.
The impact resulted in two fatalities and eight injuries. Following the crash, two passengers were able to reach the nearby fish factory on foot within six hours. The remaining occupants could not be reached immediately due to the ongoing poor weather; rescue operations for the rest of the crew and passengers were successfully completed on January 3, 1965.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified two primary contributing factors. First, the meteorological data provided to the flight crew was incorrect and did not accurately represent the actual weather conditions present along the route. Second, the crew made the decision to proceed with the flight despite visibility levels falling below the established minimum safety requirements.
