What happened
On May 11, 1965, wreckage was discovered following an aviation accident involving a single-engine airplane during a flight from Manoma to Troitskoye. During the flight, the crew departed the airfield heading in the incorrect direction, which led to a loss of navigational orientation.
While the aircraft was maintaining an altitude of approximately 350 meters, it encountered adverse weather conditions. The plane subsequently collided with trees on a forested hillside situated roughly 65 km ENE of Troitskoye. The impact caused the aircraft to catch fire and be completely destroyed by the flames. The accident resulted in 12 fatalities, including both pilots and all 10 passengers.
Findings
The investigation determined that the crew was under the influence of alcohol during the flight. This state of intoxication led to a significant navigation error, causing the aircraft to deviate from its intended path and ultimately strike the terrain.
