What happened
During the final approach phase to Lipetsk Airport, an incident occurred involving the unintended activation of the thrust reversers on both engines. While the aircraft was maintaining an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters, a member of the flight crew accidentally deployed the reverse thrust mechanism. This unexpected change in engine performance forced the captain to execute an emergency landing procedure.
As a result of the loss of controlled descent parameters, the aircraft type (unspecified) crashed short of the runway threshold. Despite the impact, there were no injuries reported among the 13 occupants on board. However, the structural damage sustained during the crash landing was severe enough that the aircraft was declared a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the event determined that the primary factor leading to the accident was the unintentional application of thrust reversers by a crew member while the flight was in its final approach phase.
