What happened
During a departure from Guryev Airport, an aircraft climbing through 900 metres experienced a loss of power and a subsequent flameout in the right engine. In response to the failure, the crew performed the necessary procedures to shut down the engine and feather the propeller. The flight then proceeded to complete a circuit intended to return to the airfield.
While on final approach, the aircraft encountered icing conditions. During this phase, the aircraft was not correctly aligned with the runway, prompting the captain to execute a go-around. During this maneuver, the aircraft lost altitude and impacted a field. At the time of the crash, the undercarriage was in a partially retracted state. Following the impact, the aircraft slid for 418 metres before coming to a stop approximately 6 km from the airport. There were no fatalities among the 51 occupants, all of whom evacuated the wreckage safely. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The initial sequence of events was triggered by the flameout of the right engine during the climb.
- Adverse weather conditions, specifically icing, contributed to the difficulty of the approach.
- The decision to initiate a go-around, combined with the loss of altitude, led to the impact.
