What happened
Shortly after departing from Mary Airport, an aircraft was maintaining a cruising altitude of approximately 4,200 meters when the crew identified a failure in one of the engines. Following this mechanical issue, the flight crew notified Air Traffic Control (ATC) regarding the engine malfunction and received authorization to initiate a return to the departure airfield.
During the descent toward Mary Airport, the pilot determined that the aircraft lacked sufficient performance to successfully reach the runway. In an effort to mitigate risk, the crew executed an emergency belly landing within an open field. The impact caused the plane to slide across the terrain for several yards before coming to a complete stop. While the incident resulted in zero injuries, the aircraft sustained damage so severe that it was declared a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor contributing to the emergency landing was an engine failure occurring during the cruise phase of flight.
