What happened
During an initial cruise at 14,000 feet, the flight crew began their descent toward Lubango Airport. The approach took place amidst challenging weather conditions characterized by significant rainfall and low visibility. While maneuvering at an altitude of approximately 7,400 feet, the aircraft type impacted a mountain slope in the vicinity of Bibala.
The wreckage was subsequently located roughly 22 km northwest of Lubango Airport, positioned about 20 meters beneath the peak of the terrain. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane and led to 15 fatalities, with no survivors among the occupants.
Findings
Official investigations determined that the crew began their approach earlier than intended. This premature descent caused the aircraft to drop below the minimum safe altitude for the area. The presence of heavy rain, which severely limited visibility, was also identified as a contributing element to the accident.
