Fatal aircraft accident during crop spraying flight in Voronezh region

1 fatality • Demidovo, Russia • Flight

A single-engine aircraft crashed into a forest in the Gribanovski district following an engine failure, resulting in the death of the pilot.

What happened

During a routine agricultural mission for the Dimitrova collective farm, an aircraft was performing crop spraying operations departing from Nizhni Karachan. While navigating the airspace between Nizhni Karachan and Demidovo, the aircraft experienced a sudden engine failure while flying over a forested area.

At an altitude of approximately 80 to 90 meters, the aircraft began to descend rapidly. The plane struck the tops of trees before flipping upside down and crashing into the forest floor. Following the impact, the wreckage ignited and was consumed by fire. There was only one person on board, the pilot, who was killed in the accident.

Findings

Official investigations concluded that the crash was caused by a loss of control following the failure of the engine during flight. Investigators were unable to identify the specific mechanical reason for the power loss because the engine was completely destroyed by the forces of the impact and the subsequent intense fire.

Probable cause

The aircraft lost control due to an in-flight engine failure that could not be specifically diagnosed due to post-crash destruction.
