Crop spraying aircraft accident near Besedino, Russia

1 fatality • Kursk, Russia • Takeoff (climb)

An agricultural aircraft crashed during takeoff near Kursk after an early liftoff caused by uncorrected wind conditions, resulting in one fatality.

What happened

During a routine crop spraying mission for the Oktyabr collective farm, an aircraft (type not specified) experienced a fatal accident near Besedino in the Kursk district. The incident occurred during the takeoff phase after the aircraft had completed a ground roll of approximately 300 metres.

As the plane attempted to climb, the crew failed to account for the effects of a crosswind or tailwind. This oversight led to a premature liftoff at an insufficient airspeed. Consequently, the aircraft entered a stall at an altitude of roughly 10 to 15 metres. The plane subsequently crashed approximately 235 metres beyond the runway threshold, in an area situated about 15 km east of Kursk.

The accident resulted in one fatality among the crew, while the second occupant sustained serious injuries.

Probable cause

The pilot-in-command initiated a liftoff before reaching adequate speed, failing to compensate for wind conditions.
