What happened
During the final approach phase to Papaly Airport, the pilot of a twin-engine aircraft contacted air traffic control to request an increase in the brightness of the approach lighting system. Shortly after this communication, the aircraft lost control while maneuvering toward the airfield. The plane impacted the ocean a few kilometers before reaching the runway.
All 63 occupants on board the aircraft perished in the accident.
