Air Peace Flight APK7191: Interim Statement on 2019 Lagos Landing Accident (5N-BQO)

Incident Overview and Flight Details On 23 July 2019, a Boeing 737-300 aircraft operated by Air Peace Limited, bearing the nationality and registration marks 5N-BQO, departed Port Harcourt for Lagos as flight APK7191. The aircraft carried 133 persons on board, including six crew members, and operated under an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan. The co-pilot served as the pilot flying, while the captain was the pilot monitoring. ## Approach and Landing Sequence At 11:26:12, the control tower issued a final landing clearance for runway 18R, noting a wet runway surface and wind conditions of 290 degrees at 6 knots. During final landing callouts at 50 and 30 feet, the captain reported that the aircraft was not aligned with the runway centerline. The captain then took control, announcing, “I have controls” and “correcting back to the centerline.” The crew stated that the right wheel touched down simultaneously, visibility was lost, and the nose wheel touched down. The aircraft landed on the nose gear, causing the nose wheel to break off. ## Post-Landing Actions and Investigation Status At 11:28:43, the flight requested a tow truck, and the crew informed the control tower that the gear had collapsed. At 11:45:33, the flight requested ground equipment to disembark passengers. A conveyance vehicle and movable passenger stairs arrived shortly afterward, and all passengers disembarked without injuries. The accident occurred in daylight and in rain. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau issued this interim statement on 23 July 2025, the sixth anniversary of the accident, in accordance with Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
