History of the Flight
On 13 July 2025 at about 06:45 local time, Air Peace flight APK7190, a Boeing 737-524 registered as 5N-BQQ, departed Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, for a scheduled domestic flight to Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo International Airport (DNPO), Port Harcourt. There were 103 persons on board: 2 cockpit crew, 5 cabin crew, and 96 passengers. The flight operated under an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan with an endurance of three hours. The captain was the pilot flying and the first officer was the pilot monitoring.
At 07:10, Air Traffic Control (ATC) Approach cleared the flight to climb to FL310 and later to descend to FL210, FL110, and FL050. The crew was instructed to intercept the final approach track for Runway 21. The flight requested and received clearance to fly direct to waypoints GAMEP and BINIM for the ILS approach. The crew reported established on the localizer and was instructed to contact Tower.
Aircraft and Crew Information
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-524 (serial number 27533), was manufactured in 1995. It was equipped with two CFM56 engines (Engine 1: CFM56-3B1, Engine 2: CFM56-3C1). The airframe had accumulated 48,207.43 hours. The Certificate of Airworthiness was valid until 28 February 2026.
The captain, aged 64, held an ATPL and had 18,655.12 total flying hours, with 10,000 hours on type. The first officer, aged 28, held a CPL and had 1,199.30 total flying hours, with 881.54 hours on type. Both held valid licences and medical certificates.
Occurrence
According to the captain, the aircraft was stable on the ILS at 1,000 ft AGL. He disconnected the autopilot at 500 ft. At 400 ft, he noticed the glide slope indicator showed a "fly down" deviation. The first officer called for a go-around, but the captain continued and landed. The aircraft touched down approximately 2,264 m from the threshold of Runway 21, which is 3,000 m long. It traveled a total of 945 m before coming to a final stop 209 m from the end of the runway, on the clearway. The incident occurred at 07:46 local time in daylight under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was overwritten. The flight data recorder (FDR) has been retrieved and is pending full analysis.
Injuries and Damage
No injuries were reported among the 7 crew and 96 passengers. All passengers disembarked unhurt. Damage to the aircraft has not yet been determined. There was no fire.
Investigation Status
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) was notified and dispatched investigators on the day of the occurrence. Post-incident toxicology tests on the flight crew detected Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG), indicating recent alcohol consumption. The captain also tested positive for cotinine (nicotine), and one cabin crew member tested positive for THC (cannabinoid). These results are being reviewed under the Human Performance and Safety Management System components of the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
