What happened
A flight originating from Araçatuba, intended for São Paulo with a scheduled stop in Bauru, was involved in a runway excursion at Congonhas Airport. The aircraft, carrying a total of 25 occupants (21 passengers and 4 crew members), landed on runway 17R. The runway surface was noted to be wet at the time of arrival.
Upon completing the landing, the crew initiated braking maneuvers. During this process, the aircraft drifted to the left and exited the paved surface of the runway. As the aircraft moved onto the unpaved area, it struck a concrete structure that housed the electrical components for the runway lighting system. The force of the collision caused the nose landing gear to detach from the airframe. The aircraft eventually came to a stop, and all individuals on board were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The presence of wet runway conditions during the landing phase.
- The aircraft's deviation from the runway centerline during the braking phase.
