What happened
During the approach to Indore, the flight proceeded without incident until the final landing phase. Upon reaching the runway, the aircraft experienced a heavy touchdown that resulted in a significant bounce. In an attempt to stabilize the aircraft and manage the sink rate, the crew increased engine power. However, this action led to a second heavy impact on the runway.
A sequence of subsequent bounces followed the initial impacts. During this unstable period, the aircraft drifted off the runway centerline and migrated toward the edge of the airfield. The movement continued until the plane came to a complete stop near the airport boundary wall. There was no fire following the event, and all 53 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
Findings
- The aircraft experienced a series of successive bounces following an initial hard touchdown.
- The application of increased engine power during the bounce sequence contributed to the loss of directional control on the runway.
