A flight approaching Brno crashed into a hillside near Slavkov under poor visibility conditions, resulting in multiple fatalities.

What happened

During an approach to Brno, the aircraft encountered marginal weather conditions characterized by limited visibility. While on final approach, the aircraft type struck the crest of a hill and subsequently crashed near a residence situated close to the village of Slavkov, approximately 6 km from the threshold of runway 28.

The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane. The accident claimed the lives of 13 people, consisting of three crew members and ten passengers. Other individuals on board sustained injuries, with several of these being classified as serious.

Findings

Investigations into the accident concluded that the flight crew descended below the minimum descent altitude because they had miscalculated the aircraft's position during the approach.

Probable cause

The crew initiated a descent prematurely due to an error in determining their exact position during the approach.
